The Future is Now
The past is a distant memory, and the future is a possibility. What if I were to tell you that the past is not the reason for the present and the present is not an indicator of your future? The past is not a fixed thing. It changes with the present. You recall only 1% of your past and that can also be modified by your actions in the present. Similarly, the future dictates how you spend your time in the present. A future that you have envisaged and reminisce about every moment is of paramount importance. More reasons why visualization is very important.
Our brain is a prediction machine. It predicts the next moment in the present. Sometimes it fails, and other times it’s on the dot. However, realize that it goes forward not backward. A person who acts in alignment with his/her future self is on target. But the speed can vary. Somebody maybe 2X and somebody maybe 10X. It all depends on how badly you want your goals fulfilled. The more time you spend in the present aligned with your future, the more the chances of it happening early. Many people have a vague idea of the future. Hence, they squander away the present.
Say you are an athlete. And the only future that you have imagined is winning the Olympics. You work hard and reach your target, say, by the age of 26. You are an Olympic medal winner. What next? You have no clue. Now, this is a myopic vision. Hence, it’s very important to have a lofty goal. Make it as magnanimous as you can. Have many goals, not just one, to keep you occupied for one lifetime. If you hit the first, you know you must go after the next. Whereas if you don’t have a clear idea of the terrain ahead, you may fumble. Get back on track.
The key to a successful life is future priming. The more you envisage, the better. Your true north or your direction should always point to a future that you have not only envisaged but felt. Imagine your dream of a new house, a leisure trip, a philanthropic activity, or whatever, as clearly as you can. Feel it. Believe that it has come true. And never run out of goals. We see examples of such people everywhere. Do not undercut your aspirations. Do not live with regrets. No matter what your age is. Dream big. ‘Cause dreams are what we are made of.
God Bless!
