Prayer and Programming

There is a similarity between computer programming and prayer. A computer program consists of 3 parts:

1. Declaration

2. Function

3. Closure

A prayer is also similar. Here is an outline:

Declaration (Gratitude)

What do I have

Function (Desire)

What do I want

Closure (Belief)

In trust and faith

In the Gospel of Thomas (Nag Hammadi Scrolls) it is mentioned that we must give importance to the feeling of having already gotten what we had asked for. When we ask for something, we must believe that we have already received it. Our thoughts and emotions should be focused in the same direction. That is the only prerequisite.

“Ask and ye shall receive” is not just a quote. It’s a dictum. Even science acknowledges the existence of a quantum field (Higgs field) which is all pervasive. It understands the language of the heart.

Desires are what propel us forward. They are not bad, but attachment to them is. Unrealized desires are often the cause of grief. For those who have little or no desires, Lord Krishna comes to our rescue.

“Sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja” (Forsake everything and take refuge in me)

Life has been given to us to experience, not rummage away in our fleeting thoughts and emotions.

Be existential, not psychological.

God Bless!
